Is there any way to change the default parenthesis that surround the number of studs to square brackets? Do not want the (10), would prefer [10]
Thanks in advance,
Bill

Select the beam tag and go to edit this tag family. You can change the parenthesis prefix and suffix in the number of studs parameter like you want to see. We are using the same parenthesis like what you would prefer. Give it a shot.

Thanks Mitesh. I tried what you suggested and the tags turned into [(10)] - the parnethesis were retained. I do not even see the parenthesis when I edit the family.

Hi Bill,
Can you post the family? Do you happen to remember if this is the out of the box family and which year it was from? Also, which version of Revit Structure are you using? The shipped Imperial content with 2012 doesn't seem to have the parenthesis but I may be missing something.
Thanks,

Ken,
Thanks for the reply.
I am using Revit Structural 2013. I noticed that when I place a new beam, the drop-down for the number of studs has the parenthesis.
The family is "Structural Framing Tag-w-Studs-Camber.rfa out of the US Imperial.

Ken,
I think I attached the family here...

Hi Bill,
You're going to love this (or maybe not). Someone, when they put in the beams (or afterwards, or via some automated update, is this from an update from RAM or the composite framing extension?) put the parentheses in. The field is a text field and lists all current values used in the beams. So, if you put () or other characters in, they will be considered part of the stud designation.
To fix the issue manually, select the beam and replace (20) with 20 and it will be all set for that beam. Rinse and reapeat for other beams (you could multiple select ones with the same number to speed the process)
In order to fix a massive amount of them (and you can't fix the root or source of the issue) you could
1. arrange a Revit schedule and go down one at a time
2. you could create a filter to select beams by number of studs and progressively change the number to select multiple instances that meet the criteria and then change them in the properties
3. create or have someone create an API macro that will strip out the (). If you're interested in that, please contact me offline and I can suggest some people who could help you out.
Hope that helps,

Hi
I have made some changes in your family and uploaded. Please give it try and let me know your concerns. Find the attachment below.
Thanks

Ken,
I thought I saw last night where you posted. Anyway, the model was imported with the Ram-Revit link, so maybe thats where the parenthesis orginated from. When you click on a beam and choose the size, the number of studs from the drop-down menu already has the parnthesis built in. I could edit each beam to switch to brackets, but I'm too deep into this project to do that. I guess I'll have to live with them on this project.
Mitesh,
Thanks for the effort, but when I load your version of the family into my project, I get this ([x]) where dsignates the number of studs. Like I said, this project will not have brackets.
Thank you all for your help.

Hi Bill,
I thought a link or external command might have been the culprit. It's not that the drop-down has them "built-in" but rather it is simply showing all the values currently in use (which all have parentheses resulting from the link). If you add a number without parentheses you'll now see that one in the list in addition to all the ones with parentheses. Might be worth contacting the link developer and see if there might be a setting that would allow you to control the format of the stud designations.
Sorry we couldn't be more help.
