Default Xref Pathing Standard -Relative - Projectname......

We have been using the Autocad PROJECTNAME and overlaid xrefs for years, are there any advantages for us to change to Relitive pathing?
We do share our drawings with various firms and outside companies, our xref method has been working without complaint....shoudl we change??

    Thanks

Don't fix that which is not broken. If you've had no issues with the way you do it I'd keep doing it that way. Though I always use relative path so if we ever change location of our files on server or something, it will autodetect the xrefs in new location as opposed to using full path attachment

I have heard of people using PROJECTNAME method with sucess but it was a small number of projects. I have not heard of anyone having problems with large amount of projects and files with PROJECTNAME, but just have not heard of anyone doing that.
I was wondering how many projects and average number of files used per project, and how many years have you upgraded?
    Thanks

we use relative paths, and no matter the file name we typically rename the xref name to a standard name. this is something we don't have to do unless we work on massdot or conndot projects because of their naming system. nobody wants to have layers with weird xref names plus the layer name. instead of 123450[xx%]HD(layout).dwg <- massdot cad file naming, we will rename the xref name to Z-Layout, this suppresses all of the xref layers to the bottom because of the "Z-"

Relitive path is the way to go. You never know when you are going to get a server name change!
