Default Phasing - Highlight New Construction

I am trying to create a view that will show new construction in a unique color. I am working on a renovation project and it would be helpful to have a view that clearly distinguishes new construction from existing construction.

The linked Architectural model will not show new construction in a different color, it shows as halftone or grey. Also, demoed construction is showing for some reason.

If I create a wall myself it displays as I had intended; all mech/elec devices also display correctly.

The images below show my Phase settings.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you need to set the Phase Mapping for the linked model - select the Link and go to Type Properties. There, you can set the Phase Mapping. This could be occurring because the Architect has created different Phases, such as a Demolition Phase.

    Phase Mapping looks correct.

Also, the Demo views look correct; demoed construction is shown with red line work.
I imagine if there were a phase mapping problem the demoed walls wouldn't look correct either.

Alright, I see what you mean now - elements from the Existing Phase seem to be willing to obey the Phase Graphic Overrides, but the elements belonging to the Current Phase don't seem to be affected.

You can go into the View's V/G Overrides (or create a View Template) and set the Categories to the desired color. You can set the Link's Display Settings to Custom, and then change all of its Categories to the desired color if you only wish to affect the Link's graphics.

I set the view to a Phase Filter that shows New as "By Category" and Existing as "Overridden" (grey).
I changed the color of all desired categories, hoping that this would affect only new construction because the appearance of existing construction would be dictated by the Phase Filter.
Unfortunately this did not work, the color changes made in Visibility Graphics affected everything, New and Existing. Based on this, I believe that Visibility Graphics settings supersede Phase Philters.

    I have a hunch,

I see that in the Visibility Graphics settings of the view that I am working with the linked Architectural model's Phase Filter is not the one that I created, "Highlight New Const.".
In fact, that Phase Filter in not an option for the linked model.

Could it be that I have to ask the Architects to add my Phase Filter to their model?

    Jeff,

you can try mapping your phases between Linked Models:

To map phases in the linked model:
 In the drawing area of the host model, select the linked Revit model.
 In the Type Properties dialog, find the Phase Mapping parameter and click ‘Edit’

To apply phase mapping in the host model:
 In the Visibility/Graphics (VG) --> Revit Links --> ‘Display Settings’ for the linked Revit model
 Select ‘By Host View’ or ‘Custom’
 If ‘Custom’ is selected, for Phase select ‘By Host View’

That would work. The linked model will use the Phase Filter from its own file, but it will apply the Graphic Override settings from your Project. If it's an option to have the architect include that in every project that you need it, then that could indeed be a way to go.

The Phase Mapping is consistant, see o4Phase Mapping.jpg below.
The linked model is set to "By Host View", see 07Graphic.

If I create a wall in my model the wall will show highlighted in blue, according to the Phase Filter Overrides.
However, the walls in the linked model are unchanged.

Also, the demoed walls are still showing.
