Replace Selected Detail Component Manager Item in Place

Had this question asked by a drafter, can we replace a selected item originally from the detail component manager without losing its place in the drawing? In other words he wanted to replace all of the joist shown in section with a smaller member size but didn't want to have to redo their placement.

The Replace Selected option on the right click menu when a Detail Component is selected does not appear to allow for replacement "in place".
