    Unhappy Nested window sections not behaving

    I've been tearing my hear out for days now trying to work out what I'm doing wrong. Sadly no-one at the office is able to help me, I'm the guy who does nested families... but can't make this work.

    My goal is very simple. I have to provide our quantity takeoff people with the following:

    * Number of windows section of following types:
    * Fixed window sections
    * Fixed opaque window sections with insulated backing
    * Right-hung window sections
    * Left hung window sections

    For this I have created a an insulation 'block' which is nested in my window section Family. That family has the four types, one of which includes the insulation.

    The window section family in turn is nested into my window casing with between one and four sections per window in the model.

    Most of this works fine, actually some of them work perfectly - but some of them don't. Something is wrong with the way I am trying to control the placement of the window section in the wall. Instead of following the casing which is locked to the walls outside surface is often follows the center of the wall - which it is absolutely not locked to.

    What am I doing wrong? Clearly I've misunderstood something. Is it something to do with where my nested families have their origin?

    I've attached a project with this family in. Try changing the wall thickness and you'll quickly see the problem. (And yes we do use 600mm thick walls in Denmark sometimes). Heeeellllllp ....

    It has something to do with your reporting parameter "Fagdybde". If you delete this and dimension the other way (from a reference plane just "north" of the bottom one you're dimensioning too - sorry, no names on the ref planes so hard to describe) and lock that dimension it seems to do what I think you want.

    Just so I'm clear on this, is this how it's supposed to operate? (See attached modified Revit 2012 Project)

    Almost, the window section places correctly now. But I also want the block of insulation to read off the thickness of the wall (that's what FagDybde was for) so it fills to the interior surface of the wall.

    I'm trying to work out what you've done now... if I don't work it out I'll post a new file, this time with names RPs.

    All works now, reputations enhanced

    But why didn't it work the other way around, with things locked toward the front of the wall? Insight welcomed.
