    Default Installer crashes

When trying to install both from CD rom and from downloaded version I can not install on win7 i7 toshiba laptop, same CD-rom and download installs fine on other computers, but this laptop crashes while starting to install. This happens at the very begining of the install process, before you get to the option to click on options or "install". It crashes right as it reads the autoload and the very first spash screen comes up. CD runs a bit it sounds like it's installing but then just errors out and sends a report to autodesk.

Tried two different CD's, network deployment and downloading directly to laptop, all crash at the same spot at the very first splash screen.

    Anyone else having this issue?

REVIT MEP 2013 installs fine, as did 2012 versions of REVIT and AutoCAD MEP.

Odd, same disks work on other workstation no problems. Pretty new laptop, 1 year +/- old.

Tried uninstalling REVIT 2013 and then installing AutoCAD MEP 2013, same problem.

    any suggestions?

Did the installer manage to create installation log file? You can check it in temporary folder. Hold win key (the one with Windows logo on your keyboard) and R. Type %temp% then ENTER. Find any log file related to your product installation.
When you install the product, have you turned off your Anti Virus? It can cause installation problems.
Another thing you might want to try is to turn off UAC (User Access Control)

I'll check out the log file. I tried disabling the virus checker, tried running it in compatibility mode, tried turing off Windows UAC, logged in as Admin, etc, etc.

I can't remember 100% but it might be something to do with if it's trying to install c++ 2010 redistributable.

The redistributable fails to install if it's already installed, this causes the whole install to fail unless in the ini file it's set to ignore failure of that component.

    have a look here: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.ph...-Visual-C-2010

For me the problem was during setup's first bit of running, it would never get to the point of installtion of any of the programs. The crash was before any of the actual components started to install.

If you open the task manager and watch the setup.exe, (it helps to turn on the commandline also to see whats running better)

With the network deployment the setup.exe fires up from the location you run the setup.exe/shortcut from and then a second setup.exe starts up and is run from the local machine.

I've seen it before hang/crash here when it's been waiting for windows updates to finish installing, typically when the system needs a reboot.
