Default How to convert 'CAD Duct' to 'REVIT Architecture/MEP'

    Greetings,

I am using REVIT Architecure 2013, our services consultant is using CAD Duct which I understand is a kind of 3D AutoCAD plugin/add-on. We would like to convert his 3D CAD Duct information into REVIT information without simply inserting a benign 3D mass into REVIT (which we can already do). What we want is to be able to get the intelligent information across so that it can be quantifiable in REVIT terms, take-offs, scheduling that sort of thing. (I realise working with a services consultant who already uses REVIT MEP would negate this issue but this is not an option in this project.)

    Any tips please?
    Many thanks,

    CM.

The way I see it, you basically have three options...
    1) Follow these steps: http://revitclinic.typepad.com/my_we...revit-mep.html
    2) Use Navisworks for 3D coordination/clash detection
    3) I'm not sure if this one is even an option but, try to export from CAD Duct to .IFC format then import the .IFC file into Revit.

I agree with tfullerpipes on this. Go to the labs for this one. It has a very good tool for doing this conversion. At the company I'm currently at, we incorporated this tool and it works very well (2013 version). They also just re-released it for another year trial and gave it functionality to work with 2014 too.

The only problem with Lab products/projects is that they aren't "official" and could be discontinued at any time. In other words, don't be 100% reliant on that because it may not be around for the next version.

I have consistently used IFC to coordinate in-house with Arch/Struct/Elect/Plumbing when I do my HVAC in CADmep. I have also used exploded ACAD files and created generic models, but I really do not suggest that route.
