    Default Footings that Intersect

I have footings set to show up as hidden lines on plan in the view settings and that works fine. But, when ever footings of different thicknesses intersect it messes up the lines that are displayed on the plans, turning some hidden lines solid and others just look like smaller dashes. As long as they are the same then nothing is wrong.

How can I prevent this from happening? (Other then making all footings the same thickness)

    The same thickness

I think what you're seeing is the two dashed lines overlapping. If they are different lengths than they fill in each others gaps, so to speak.

But where are the 2nd dashed lines coming from? There is no footing above or below the footings. If they are the dashed line representing the bottom edge of the footing do you know of a way to hide them?

I would play around with the Linework tool <Invisible Line> as well as hiding an element in view, just make sure it's just one element. I believe that yes, if the top and bottom of the footing is different lengths, the dashed lines will screw up this way.

Have you joined the two footings? You might be seeing the two edges of the two footings. Sometimes auto joint works fine, but other times I find that I need to get in and actually join the footings together.

Yes, I have. It seems that to happen when the footings are a different thickness. If I make them the same thickness it makes the problem go away, which makes making a accurate model that also looks good difficult.

The Revit philosophy: Massive amount of display settings, limited amount of display control.

You could try setting the foundations to be a hidden line, then uncheck the 'hidden lines" options.
In theory that might fix the problem.
But most times, revit is going to draw line if you have 2 different thickness.

That is an interesting idea. I will try it.
