Default Linking One-Lines with the Model

I know that Revit is not yet able to populate one-lines from panels placed in the model view, but is there a way to link the two? I want to have the annotation family update when the panel is modified in the model, for instance panel name, amperage, location. I believe shared parameters might come into play. I also believe this would require setup (i.e. attaching annotation to panel in the model) for each new panel added. Any suggestions on how to approach this?

A few projects ago I did what you're asking about. All the parameters that will appear on the one-line will need to be shared parameters. Then you can create tags that appear like your standard one-line symbols with labels that read the appropriate shared parameters. In your project create an elevation view with all elements turned off except the electrical equipment you want to tag. However, turn the electrical equipment color to white so that it doesn't actually print. The tag will print but the equipment you are tagging will not. Use detail lines for wires, etc.

It works all right. But when equipment gets moved in the model the tag moves with it so you have to go back and re-position them constantly. That's the major reason we abandoned this method until Revit gives us a way to do this more intuitively. Also, there are a lot of times when the one-line diagram drives the design and not the other way around. But the method I just explained means you have to place your distribution equipment in the model first, which in some cases means more work. In any event, hopefully this will give you a place to start.

Thanks for the response. This is a solution we considered, though the issue with moving panels in the model became apparent, as this happens often enough. I guess what I want to do is "tag" the panels without actually tagging them. Another solution, though not entirely what we are trying to achieve, is scheduling the parameters from each to compare side by side the panels in both views (floor plan/drafting view) so we can make sure they line up.

i've always asked for a type of detail component that could be inserted on a drafting view (your one-line symbol for a panel) that would have a tag with whatever panel info you wanted to show on your one-line. you could then select this detail component and associate it (via drop-down box or from a floorplan) with a panel or piece of electrical equipment. that way it would read its info, but not be tied to it physically. the same could go for feeders, you would associate a line with a feeder, to tag its conduit and wire sizes. just my $0.02
