Slow Layer Manager and Layer Pulldown

In AutoCAD 2005 the Layer Manager and Layer Pulldown are taking extremely long to open, sometimes over a full minute. I looked on the AutoCAD Knowledge Base and found an answer but it is not really helping. Service Pack 1 is installed and there are no layer filters being used. Those were the fixes that were mentions. Anybody have any other ideas?

Are there Layer Filters present within the drawing file (ie not being used, but present never the less)?

How about Layer States?

The only filter in the is from the one drawing that is xreferenced in. That file also has four layer states assigned to it through the Layer State Manager. There are a total of 246 layer in the file also. None of these things caused a problem in 2000i before we upgraded, that is what is weird about it.

Im having the same problem with some blocks that contain only one layer. Anyone want to have a look?

The block has about 100 or so layer filters attached to it. I purged them by using wblock.
