Lightbulb VRay Material Object is black in viewport...

    Hej
I have bought people-object in VRay Material. It is black in viewport (3ds Max Design 2013).
I have then download VRayMtlConverter Version 2.5. Can any help me with how to use/
connect VRayMtlConverter in 3ds Max Design 2013?
    Thank you

It could be one of two things that is casuing the issue.

    1) The maps in the materials are still pointing to a location that doesn't exist on your work station (i.e. \\C:Max\VRay_People\maps, or something similar). You will need to re-map the network paths. The best/most efficient way is through Asset Tracking. M(same place as "Open" or "Save File")>References>Asset Tracking. Select all the maps that are associated/missing, then right click and select "set new paths." Navigate to the correct location. I would perhaps merge all the people into one file, then do this to all of thema nd then save as "Group." Then you only have to do this once.\

    2) It could be that your renderer set to default (scanline) and not VRay. If you use VRay consistently, go to Customize>Custom UI & Default Switcher and you can set VRay as your default.

Give those a try and see what happens. Good luck!

    Hej Glen Loyd,

Thank you very much for your instructions

    1) I have "Asset Tracking" and "Set Path" all *.jpg files to my PC (30 *.jpg files in the model). So there are no missing *.jpg files as I had earlier.

    2) I use 3ds Max Design 2013 which does not have VRay.
"Customize > Custom UI & Default Switcher" show me two boxes

Initial settings for tool options (Box left)
    Max
    Max.mentalray
    DesignVIZ
DesignVIZ.mentalray (-> selected in my PC)
    DesignVIZ.iray

    UI schemes (Box right)
DefaultUI (-> selected in my PC)
    ModularToolbarsUI
    3dsMax2009
    ame-dard
    ame-light

The woman object is still black! Actually I think we need to "VRayMtlConverter". Also when I open the file, it stands "Missing Dlls: vrender2009.dlr, vray2sidedmtl2009.dtl".
When we buy advanced people models, is stands "material VRay: YES". I think "VRay material" in this connection means we have to do some thing with plug-in VRay (?) in vores 3ds Max/3ds Max Design to make the object visible...

If you know more, please help me... Thanks )

Ah. You are absolutely correct. No VRay = black VRay materials. Running a scene or material converter should do the trick. There are some free scripts out there (ie.e scriptspot.com) that should have a variety of converters if you hit a wall with the VRayMtlConverter (which is really a script).

VRay is commonly used is architectural projects, so many asset objects are developed specifically for it. Some companies will create a couple versions of the same model to accomodate the various renderers. Sounds like you guys got the VRay version.
