    Default Measure questions

    Hello,

We'd like to know if you can actually measure threads with Design review or anyway to do so. We sometimes need to use the DWF file on production line to measure things up.

If not, is there a IDW viewer that would permit such measurements ? Or do anyone have an idea how we could achieve our goal without having to use Inventor.

    Thank you

Threads? Like the length of a thread on a screw?
I do not believe this is possible, the measuring options do not seem to be flexible enough to achieve it.

Thread with size, pitch and lenght, like 1/2-13 x 1/2
And as you say, sadly, DR does not seems flexible enough.

    Thank you

What other options do you have available?

Like do have, and can you use AutoCAD?
Can the sheet(s) be exported out as a .dwg or .dxf and you could pull dims off of that?

    Just a thought

We cannot use Autocad, for we would not have enough licenses for it and what we need to do, and our mechanics would not have the necessary training to use autocad. Our conceptors use Inventor and generate DWF files. We use Design review for 2 main reasons.

#1 We only send dwf files to external companies that will make our parts. Lightweight and easy to gather different files into a merged file is great to send out quotes.

#2 When production is on it's way, whether it be here at our main facility or at client upon installation, dwf files are light weight, DR is a lightweight program also (compared to trueview, I don't have a wimpy comptuer and TV takes a few minutes to load). 3D rendering of the machine is often used which DR does perfectly. The only down side is all (or lack of) the measuring tolls provided with DR.

If anyone has any other suggestion or way of doing things we have overlooked, feel free to write

    Thank you

    Ahh, understood.

I don't have an actual solution, and I don't know a lot about DR, but

In my experience, in Inventor: threads are an applied "feature" and not necessily "modeled".
So when adding threaded holes or bolts & threaded rods, those aren't something you can "measure" but "smart features" that inventor tells you what they are.

Unless I'm mistaken, and I could be....

So does DR have the ability to get that info?
Either that, or have your designers annotate the heck out of it for manufacturing purposes!

    Just something else to consider.
