Hi David
Although AEC does not often get uber-involved in the FM portion or lifecycle, we've still got long term retention issues. Liability issues/risks, not to mention legal requirements for retention of contract docs drive a lot of that.
And it's not just a question of hanging on to 'stuff', it's being able to access it at some undetermined point down the road, after the gray haired geezers who remember that job have moved on. IME that's where a lot of AE firms fail. They are not alone of course; NASA lost the video from the first moon landing, and it was sheer happenstance that the tapes were found. (and then they had to redesign euipment to read them because that didn't exist anymore!)
Well, as long as I've done some good in the world...
David,
Yes, it's most definitely going to be different for me than for a design firm... that's sorta why I asked. From my perspective looking into the design team, it made no sense not to have technical personnel in charge of it and I wondered if it was normal or not. ~shrugs~
I've definitely appreciated reading how folks handle this, it's been enlightening.
