    Default Profile from Extrusion

I am sure I am approaching this from the wrong direction, but I thought I would ask. I have created a simple extrusion of some straight curtain track. Now I need to go back and create some curved sections. Is there a way to use the straight piece of track as a profile to create the sweep without having to retrace the outline? It's a dumb question, but I can't learn unless I ask the dumb ones.

    Thanks!

If you are going to be reusing profiles you are better off creating a profile family rather than sketching the profile in place. For now, open the other extrusion, edit it to get to the sketch and then copy the sketch to the clipboard. You can then paste the sketch into your new extrusion. Long term it's best to create the families.

I believe you would have wanted to start by creating a profile, and then applying it as a sweep. You can still edit your extrusion, select all of the linework that defines it and copy that to the clipboard. Then open up a new profile family and paste the linework into it, to avoid having to trace the extrusion's geometry.

Edit: Missed it by that much. Took too long to make certain what I was saying was correct.

Thanks to both of you. I had tried editing the extrusion and could not grab the outline. After you both suggested that very thing, I tried again and was able to grab it this time. Some secret handshake I missed I guess.

    Thanks again!
