    Default Baluster family issue

    Hi everyone,

I'm having a constant issue with the attached baluster family. It flexes perfectly when I'm in the family editor, however as soon as i load it to a railing in a project it breaks down as shown in the picture. I basically want the baluster to be static and have the top and bottom of it be dynamic and adjust to the railing height. Any ideas? I'm pretty sure it's a very basic problem which I'm not being able to figure out.

    Thank you in advance.

I figure out your problem. Remove the bottom gap dimension and add parameters indicating the nested baluster height. See attached image. Unfortunately I am using Revit 2014 or else I will send you the fixed file.

    Hi syew,

Do you mind attaching the 2014 version anyway. I'm gonna try and apply your solution now but just in case. Thanks a lot for your help!

Edit: I actually applied your solution and it works great in the family however when i try to input it into a railing, the gap is disproportional (as per picture), so the gap is not divided in two equal parts. My problem is practically solved, however I would be interested to find a full solution is possible. Any reason while the baluster doesn't flex as it should in the railing component? Or is it a problem of the railing component I should look into? Thanks again you were very helpful.

Try this. I add top gap as different from Bottom gap. I made the top gap 4x shorter than bottom. When place into family, it will become equal. Attached is the 2014 version. I can't figure out why 4x works unless you want to take the angle and use cos or sin to figure your math. But I would stick with 4x :P.
