Default Controlling the interior & exterior materials of a window separately

I am looking to create window and door families that allow you to control the interior material and exterior material separately.

I'd like to be able to select on a window within the building and go to the properties palette and change the interior side material of the window without changing the exterior side material.

Is this possible if I just use one extrusion for the window frame?

The way I have dealt with this in the past was to create two extrusions for the window frame and sandwich them together. Then create a material parameter for the exterior side extrusion and a material parameter for the interior side extrusion and I could control the different paint colors on either side of the window from the properties palette within the project.

I am trying to simplify my window families and reduce the amount of extrusions & sweeps within the family.

    Thank you

In family editor create new "material" parameters for each finish, assign material.
then use "paint tool" and apply "material parameter" to faces required.
Once family is loaded these (material face) parameters will be available to change in properties.
