Default Text within line (symbol line), opaque background not printing

We have a family made in order to have letters/symbols as a linetype, seeing as revit won't let you do this.
We have the text background set to opaque, and have sent the line to the back, so that part of the line is shown as a break with the text easily readable. The issue is, it displays correctly on screen but does not print like this (hard copy or pdf).

Can anyone tell me what is wrong and why this won't work?

I have attached screen shots of the line ON screen (displays correct) and a screen shot of a PDF (displays incorrectly - you can't read the text). I have also included the symbol line family. (please note - I did not make the family, but a previous colleague in the office made it/sourced it)

    Hi,

I've run into the same situation with a label that is nested into a family. Were you able to find a solution.

    Thanks

Sorry, no luck yet! seems no one else has any idea's either by the lack of response! Very annoying - we use this type of line on the majority of our stuff and it looks tacky and is very hard to read with the line covering the text

There could be a better solution and probably is, but until someone else comes up with a better one, here it is.
In the text family (Generic Annotations), I've added a masking region with a width and a height parameters (Blank Spot Height and Width), so depending on the text size, you can control the size of the voids in the line.

PijiPiwo - thank you, this seems to be working, hallelujah! haha.
Meanwhile, it seems as though revit's "what you see is what you get" method isn't so true afterall. perhaps we can dare to dream with new releases being able to make linetypes that will accept Letters & symbols and do away with all these work-arounds.
