Default Automatic line weights for elevations

Summary: Elevations should automatically have "depth-of-field" capabilities to adjust line weights for entities that are farther and nearer to the view.

Description: As architects we like to increase line weights to things that are closer to us and also at the edge of the structure. We also like to drop the line weight for things that are farther away. I would think that Revit should be able to easily automate this seeing that we are looking at a model and it knows where things are in space. Current views are very monolithic in line weight and is one of our biggest complaints. It takes time to modify the line weights to make the elevations "pop". Some automation with this would help.

While there are work-arounds for this, this was a feature made available long ago in ACA. It is REQUIRED for clarity in building elevations, and should be automatic with the software.

For many years I used a CAD system that allowed "atmospheric perspective" as we called it.

The eye point and the object point of a view are known to the system. Therefore, the distance from the eye point to an object can be calculated. Objects closer to the eye point are displayed with heavier line weights than objects further away. This is a simple algorithm that shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

The current concept of using object styles to define linework in elevations is illogical. Elevation lineweights should be determined by the distance between the surfaces on either side of each line.

This issue appears to have been largely addressed in Revit 2017. http://revitcat.blogspot.com/2016/04...evit-2017.html

As an Architect with extensive drafting experience (AND a programmer), I say they have only implemented about about a quarter of the short list of effects that qualify as indicating depth. So no, I don't agree that this feature has been 'largely addressed'. Not only that, the way they implemented the depth cueing is pretty lame since it requires that the view be rasterized. It seems more like a temporary partial fix. There are some very basic drafting rules regarding line weights that follow a very regular and procedural set of rules. Such rule sets are a great example of what can be implemented by code, yet they haven't done it.

This wish has been reported as granted and already in the software.
