file open hangs inv 2014 on windows 8.1

I just moved to a new workstation after a fire.
my new system runs W8.1 64bit and Inv 2014 suite.
With a file already open (part/asm) and i try to open an IDW from file explorer or vault, Inv. shows a line (lower left corner) that it is doing something. However even some 20 minutes later nothing has happend. Shutting inv. down and opening the IDW directly (vault/file explorer) the drawing opens in mere seconds.
It is, unfortunately, not consistent behaviour. And no dialog boxes or error screens or what so ever.
Anyone else notice this behaviour?

I am still having this issue.
The info line, lower left corner, shows 'Loading presentation' when it hangs. CPU usage drops to zero. And shows no signs of life.
I have tried to get a video capture of it but i'm not going to record all tries.

We've had this error for the last year or so, since upgrading to IV2014 and Win 8.1 x64. No way to submit an error report because the only way out of it is to kill the process in task manager. Have discussed with our VAR support for several weeks/months to no avail. Only recommendation was to disable every add on we're using as well as the 3D Connexion navigator we use and repair/reinstall IV 2014. Even went so far as to try all of that and it still happened.

Hoping someone can help with this eventually. We've got 2015 downloaded on subscription but aren't ready to make that jump yet. Maybe it's fixed there, if someone can speak to that, we'd appreciate it.
