Ceiling Based Recessed Light Fixture Doesn't Work

I have created a bulkhead and want to insert recessed can lights (downlights) into it. I'm using a thick wall instead of two walls with a ceiling between them. I'm trying to place the recessed downlights that came with Revit and of course they won't attach. I get the face-based vs. ceiling-based reason for this, but the problem is, they won't attach to the adjacent 2x2 out of the box ACP ceiling either.

I found a thread which gives instruction for nesting the ceiling based fixture into a new generic face-based family, but I can't seem to get the fixture into the actual face-based family.

Can anyone help me figure this out? I had a little problem with this in a previous model, but it wasn't as crucial to get right so I just fudged it a little bit but just drawing circles. For this one, I need them to show up on the RCP and I need them to render out correctly, so just drawing circles on the plan won't work this time.

When placing ceiling based items in an RCP. Ensure your view range is showing properly so the ceiling is within the Cut Plane to Top Plane (the rest don't matter here). Also if the view is "heavy" Revit might be having dificulty figuring out that there's a ceiling drawn. Try Temp Isolating the Ceiling Object before placing the light.
