Default Rotate complex linetype with text to readable in paper space

I found this line explaining how the "U" code in the complex linetype for 2011 and newer will rotate my text in a linetype to "readable":

But what about if you rotate viewport orientation where north isn't up any longer? The text is only rotated correctly assuming north is up. Anyone know of a way to make it readable according to the viewport, not model space?

I'd like to do the same thing. And since I had the same trouble, I've opened a support ticket with Autodesk tech support. I'll post back here when I hear from them.

Let them know it would be nice for the Express Tool TORIENT to work in rotated viewports as well. Since it's still just a lisp it should be an easy fix.

For TORIENT, set your UCS within your viewport to VIEW before running the command. You can then reset your UCS to the previous setting afterward.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

Here's the response to my query.

    Hello Don,

My name is Volker, I am an AutoCAD specialist on the Autodesk Frontline Technical Support
Team, your Service Request has just been escalated to me.

Thank you for contacting us. My understanding is that you are running AutoCAD 2014 on the
Windows 7 64 bit Operating System and you wish to use the "U" option
to make complex linetypes readable when using DVIEW/TWIST.

I do not believe this is supported with this feature of complex linetypes. However,
please bear with me as I place an inquiry with our product team. Thank you for
    your patience.

    Best regards,

    Volker

Did you ever hear anything further on this? or was that the end of communications?

Opie's suggestion above should be a good workaround. Used to use object UCS to dimension lines in twisted viewports to keep the text aligned with the lines. Because twisted viewports are the norm in Civil 3D work I rarely use the "U" code in my complex linetypes. If needed I can reverse them.

Would love to see the "U" code in the complex linetypes support twisted views, only Autodesk would be able to truly fix this problem. If Mtext had been introduced first instead of complex linetypes I think we would have the option to use instead of calculating spacing for text and symbols. Imagine if we could define a linetype with text with background & mask center justified so no spacing or X & Y adjustments would be necessary. Referenced to a font like we can inside mtext so we could easily use symbols like those found in Wingdings etc… that wouldn't need a Text Style someone could modify. Using "A" value for rotation has never worked, it always rotates the text away from the line when the line direction changes because the base point isn't on the line. Center justifying the text would fix this as well.
