Default Outlet Annotation Family: Filled Region Visibility Problem

I have an outlet annotation (attached) with multiple types, several of which contain text (J-box) or a filled region (isolated ground). The family is a generic annotation and the graphic items are on an Electrical Symbol subcategory. When the subcategory is turned off, the text and filled regions stay visible. Is there no way to turn these off?

I typically use a detail item family for any filled regions and load them into the receptacle family. Then I use a yes/no parameter to control the visibility of the shaded region family for each family type.

Another suggestion for simplifying the family is to use a label for the annotations for each family type. This will require you to create 1 family-parameter or shared-parameter of type "text". Then you can just have 1 parameter filled out with the different letters for each family type instead of having different peices of text layered on top of each other and using yes/no paremeters to control each piece of text. Hopefully this makes sense as writing and reading Revit lingo can be very confusing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm relatively new to Revit and don't know much about Detail Items. This will give me a chance to learn.

The family editor is a beast and it takes a while to get used to. It took me a long time to realize that you cannot make a shaded region in a lighting fixture family and that you needed a seperate detail item family just to create it. I was trying to just draw a bunch of lines until it filled up the space for a while, lol. This forum is great for learning so ask away!
