My company does decor drawings for retail. We take the architects base plan, x-ref it into our drawing, and place our decor. We currently use AutoCAD 2005, but we save down to 2000. I have an architect who is having difficulty opening our drawings. She says she is using Auto Desk 3.3. She says that when she tries to open our drawings she gets an error message that components in the drawing were created in another version and can't be opened, it the crashes her program. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

Are you 100% that the DWG file sent to the Architect is saved in DWG 2000 format?

Can you please post here the *actual* file that was sent to the Architect.

I'm sure the files are saved in 2000 format, I have checked and double checked. Unfortunately my company wont allow me to post the file. Thanks for trying though.

could be an ADT problem? I am assuming they meant adt 3.3 rather than autodesk 3.3?

That's what we're starting to think because we aren't finding any problems with the files on our end.

If you can confirm that arch desktop is what they're using, perhaps I can move this thread over to that forum, and maybe someone else has had a problem like this, too...

You can move the thread if you want.
The problem is probably the objects contained within the file.
Since you are using 2005, create an etransmit profile and ensure that you include in the settings the option to explode AEC Objects. Please be aware that this is a somewhat destructive process. If you are exploding objects the files will no longer have the "adt intelligence" in them. Only explode the files you are sending the consultants, not the ones you wish to maintain among your own files.

once you have created the new etransmit settings, you can use it within the sheet set/project navigator as well.

My experience has been that "etransmit" has been less than reliable in saving back to previous versions of ACAD. Although the "etransmit" feature is a good one, "Export to ACAD 2000" is the only one that is consistently effective.

But as long as you are using 2005, you get that option within the Etransmit routine. Isn't that the best of both worlds?
