Pipe Accessory detail component not showing

I am trying to create a ball valve that looks like the following:




To get the filled in portion, I created a detail family with a fill. All appears to be well, until I load the family into a project. Then the detail family disappears - no ball is seen. I've triple checked all the view settings and everything appears to be in order. The lines remain, but the filled ball is gone. This happens when I am looking from the floor plan view.


If I look at the valve from an elevation, rotating the valve to see it properly, the filled ball is back.


If I change the family type from Pipe Accessories to something else, for example, Duct Accessories, the filled ball appears as it should.

If I insert this family into a Mechanical Equipment family, then insert into the project, all appears as it should.


Is there a reason that Pipe Fittings and Pipe Accessories do not show detail components in plan views?


I'm using Revit 2014 and I've attached the valve family in question.

I work for a content provider, so Revit MEPs are all we use (so your family is visible off the bat); but try changing the OC of the detail to match (23.65.55.14.14).

On a side note, if you're using generic Revit valves as a reference;
- Create the valve vertical (perpendicular to the horizontal plane)
- One set of line should suffice (Ref Level)
