    Default Inserting a birdscreen

I have a 30x14 duct that has 32x18 opening on the top with a bird screen. Any ideas how this can be done?

    Thanks,
    Rob

In other words, at the very least I would like to simply "cut" a 32x18 hole in my duct.

You can't really just cut a hole in the Duct because the Duct is not really hollow, but if you leave an "unattached" Void in the Family and enable "Cuts with Voids When Loaded" under Family Category and Parameters, you can use the "Cut" tool in the Project to make the Family cut away the Duct. The Voids can be design to make the Duct appear hollow. This is not automatic, though; you will have to manually make the cut for each instance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went ahead and simply used a return air grille and attached it to the duct. I will, however, create a family for future applications. Thanks again!

Would that not be the same as a duct mounted terminal? Revit 2014 introduced this type of terminal so you could tweak the one that comes with the library and change it's appearance and size.
