Default Duct Fittings - Default dimension parameters

I am working with some duct work in tight spots. In one particular case I am tapping a smaller vertical duct into a larger horizontal duct. I am using a standard rectangular takeoff (i.e., no bevel). My issue is that the fitting has default "Takeoff Length" of 7-1/4". I need to reduce this length so that everything will fit. I tried "revitting" this with a longer vertical duct (with the intention of then re-aligning it after everything is connected) and then adjusting the "takeoff length" in Properties, but when I re-align the "takeoff length" reverts back to 7-1/4" and thus I get an error.

Is there a place where I can define the "takeoff length" (and other parameters) to a shorter length?

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!!!

Not sure I completely understand, but can you edit the family and make the takeoff length a "Type" parameter instead of an "instance" parameter?
