Default How to redefine an offset work plane?

    Hello,
I encounter problems of not being able to redefine an offset work plane in Inventor 2013.

The work planes are offset from the top face of a solid, which was created by one extrusion cutting another extrusion.
When I delete the extrusion making the cut, the work plane has the error "Coordinate system failure".

I try to redefine the offset work plane, and I get the prompt "Define work plane by highlighting and selecting geometry".
I try to select the "new" top face of the solid, and it highlights and turns blue, but that's all. It never completes the redefine.
If I hover over another parallel face, then it says "Click to create plane by two parallel planes".

    What should I do?

    Thanks

Don't use the face of a feature to define your workplane. Define your workplane from the origin planes instead. Use named parameter values to control the height of the extrusion and the offset of the plane.

As a quick fix, I created 2 planes equal distance above and below where I need the redefine, and did a midpoint, like the prompt asks for.

It seems you did not finish the steps. You still have to drag the new plane off in a specific direction and redefine the offset distance. Inventor will not choose the direction nor re-apply the offset value.
