Default How to create a rotate parameter for a nested family within a family?

This seems incredibly easy in concept- I have a generic family nested within a generic family. I have a reference line with an endpoint locked to the family origin with a angle parameter associated to the Center (Front/Back) reference plane. The skeleton flexes just fine. When I lock the nested family to the reference line, though, flexing the angle parameter forces the nested family to lose its association to the reference line.

What gives? How do I accomplish this seemingly trivial feat?Attachment 95526Attachment 95526

For real, today is my birthday and I'd like nothing more than to have a solution to this silly problem.

the nested family needs to be face based. When you want to work with angle parameters in revit, the nested component should be face based. happy birthday!

The nested family you want to rotate has to be hosted to the reference line, not the reference level. (See attached)

    To fix it:
Select nested family, from the Modify Tab:

Edit Work plane > Pick Plane Option > Hover over/Tab select the upward facing plane of the reference line.

What was the solution to this? I'm dealing with something similar.

This is the solution that fixed the problem for me! Thank you very much (even with 5 years in between!)
