    Angry Central Model Problems

    Hello,

So I am really quite in a pickle right now. So I work for my university as the BIM Manager. I am now updating all of our 150+ buildings with correct geographical coordinates and elevation, because no one bothered to do so earlier when the drawings were originally made. So I'm stuck on this building now because apparently this model is not the Central Model so I cannot edit it. Problem is, no one can find the Central Model because it was made years ago and has been lost and probably deleted by now. How do I make this current model I have then new Central Model, or at least be able to edit it so I can move forward? Any help at all will be most appreciated!

Through Revit, open the file as normal except in the Open dialog, check the "Detach from Central" at the bottom. Click 'Open' and in the following dialog, select "Detach and preserve worksets". When you save this file, it will become a new Central File.

In general, a local file can be made into a central file. In a multiple user situation, each user will need to create a new local after the central file has been reestablished. You can also think of the user's local files as emergency backups. It is one of the nicer aspects of Revit, that there are usually a number of files around that can serve as "insurance".
