    Default Bitmap shaded view

Is it possible to view your model in Revit 7 live with bitmaps applied ala Viz render and a lot of VR viewers?

If you mean placing a background bitmap in a 3D shaded view - "live" - in the sense that you can pan and rotate the image, - then yes.

WooooHoooo - my FIRST POST! (Sorry, got carried away).....

Not to speak for Mmodernc, but I don't think background maps is what he was meant. I think he might be referring to the capability of Revit to 'show' the applied textures/materials 'realtime', as Viz and Max (and others can do), in order to check the mapping, etc. without having to render a frame everytime.

To date, I haven't found Revit to have that capability, although it would be nice to have. Perhaps in r10?? Currently, the program has difficulty with just the hidden line model graphics and shadows on. It has to do a regen/refresh for the view (then the shadows) everytime you pan the model. I believe this will get better as time goes on, but pray the coding gods are with us and we don't end up with a lot of 'overhead' for this feature.

Yes, someting more like this which is a live model with textures mapped rather than a rendering.

Remember - Revit is one program, the accurender engine is a separate program - very much like a plug-in in Viz or Max. The bitmapping would occur inside of Accurender not Revit, the wireframe, hidden line, shaded, and shaded with edges and shadows are functions inside of Revit. Material presentations are functions of Accurender. You can get a very good black and white hidden line image, and depending on how you've set your surface patterning, get a feel for the materials and their use, but no applied bitmaps inside of Revit itself at this time.
