    Default Section Box in Plan

Here's something I find useful when something unexpected turns up in a section or elevation drawing:

If you select the section box in the 3D view and switch to a plan view, the extents of the section box will be visible in the plan view. You can then adjust them to the approximate line of the questionable section or elevation. Back in 3D view, you can then rotate the model around to get a better idea of what's going on.

    Here's an example:

    1. Weird rectangle shows up in elevation

    2. Hovering mouse over it reveals that it is a skylight. It doesn't look right.

    3. Determine location of elevation

    4. Go to 3D view. Activate and select section box.

    5. Go back to plan. Section box and control handles are visible.

    to be continued....

    (continued from previous)

    6. Use control handles to align section box extents with elevation

    7. Go back to 3d view & rotate around to figure out what's going on.

Or, you could go to a 3D View and right-click on the View Cube.
Then pick Orient to View and find your Elevation in the list.
The 3D View will be cropped to the Extents of the Elevation.

Even better, get your hands on the COINS Auto Section Box

Awesome! That is totally better. I had no idea that this was available. I don't interact with the view cube enough. I should. I see all sorts of neat stuff in there.
