Default Revit Floor Plan Symbols Flipped

    Hello,

I'm very new to Revit and apologize for my dumb questions.

For some reason, symbols sometimes come in correctly:

Other times, however, they come in flipped horizontally:

How can I make the second one flip to the correct orientation? Pressing spacebar while inserting just flips it vertically:

    Hi,
When you say "come in correctly" what are you doing to bring these symbols "in"
are the symbols part of a Revit family. Ive read that if the symbols are nested with in a family - "adaptive components" can cause flipping.
    Perhaps this may help you
    Cheers

This is one of the default Revit symbols that I'm pulling in thru Systems>Electrical>Device>Lighting>Lighting Switches>Dimmer.

There is indeed a symbol nested within a family - it is "Lighting Switches Annotation.rfa" nested inside "Lighting Switches.rfa". I've done some research but I'm afraid I can't figure out how to fix this symbol. Could you offer some help?

Okay so I "solved" the issue by copying the family, mirroring the annotation symbol over the center line, creating two new params "Flip Horizontal" and "Stay Regular" (the latter which is just a not of the former) and then assigning the visibility of the original symbol to the latter and the flipped to the former. Then ticking the "Flip Horizontal" box on insertion, well, flips it .

If anyone has a less kludgly solution, please share!

this is a ongoing problem for people from what i have read over the years

there is no real ideal solution

what i have been doing is creating flipped versions of the text and assigning each one a visibility parameter
place the switch and pick the correctly oriented text

its kind of a pain but after you do a few they go quickly

you can also try hitting Tab while trying to place them. sometimes the wall is drawn in the wrong direction or is not square, or linked walls behave like the normals faces are on the wrong sides, which makes the switch want to insert on the inside face of the drywall. so, sometimes it's the wall's fault. hitting Space bar will rotate it, Tab will mirror it (or the other way around) you should usually be able to get it to look right before placing.

I work in Revit using CAD backgrounds so everything is hosted to a level or a reference plane. When you draw the reference plane backwards the symbols will look backwards when hosted to it.

    The solution is:
Not sure if this works in Revit 2014 but it does in Revit 2017. Inside the annotation family which is inside the light fixture family with nothing selected click, "keep text readable". The only answer to the question of why this is not done by default is that it's Revit.
