    Default New-Newbie question

I have some elements I inserted from the families provided with the program. I can only get them to move on a horizontal plane north and south - not east and west. If in the 3d perspective they will move up/down as well. but not in the direction I need for them to go.
I know this is something extremely simple. I have scoured the forum looking for an answer in the reference/work planes - but to no avail.
    Any help?

    Thanks,

This may be a "hosted" item where it can only move along the surface it is attached to.

Also look at the options bar and see if the "constrain" box is checked ... this will limit the direction you can move an a component, but depending on the situation, you can uncheck the box and have more freedom of movement.

I think it must be "hosted" to an element. There is no "constrain" box.

    Thanks for the responses!!

If it's hosted, you'll see an option called "pick new host" on the toolbar when you select the object. Choose that command and move the device to the location you need it to be. A different wall, I'm assuming.
