Default RS 2014 slow sync and open. Links issue?

We've tried almost everything but unable to solve the issue of slow open and sync issue.

    2 firms doing workshare.
Bandwidth and latency determined not an issue.
Only slow when open worksets for the links or site model that cause everything to slow down.
We've made sure update 2 and hotfix are applied to all RS and workstations.
We've tried creating DNS entries to match names specified in RSN.ini files.
When accelerator side don't open any worksets for links or site model, everything is very speedy.

Any other suggestion on what we can do to speed things up?

Is the configuration file (RSN.ini) for both firms identical?

Identical as it can be. Both pointing to host.domain.com, but on our side we have couple of other servers in our RSN.ini file, while the other firm I'm sure has other servers as well. Didn't look at theirs but I made sure that the main host server is the same DNS name.

I suspect that is the issue. Different operations query the entire list, regardless if they are relevant. That may cause unnecessary communication, resulting in delays.

Thanks Meng, do we match the RSN files on the RS only or do we need to do this for all workstations as well? If we match the workstations RSN.ini files does that mean we also need a DNS entry to each sites accelerators and make it reachable? When the links aren't loaded the difference is 30-40min to 5-10min for open and stc, all links reside on the host RS. You would think if it's an RSN issue, links wouldn't make such a big difference.

Autodesk recommends that you match the RSN files on all the computers and servers in the Revit Server Network: workstations, accelerators and hosts. Of course, this is complicated for multiple firms. Our experiences has shown that this will make a difference. This is my suggestion.

Otherwise, let me know whether you identify a different solution. There is always more to learn

Thanks Markus. We'll do a test to see if it makes a difference.

We are working with a consultant and sharing models over a Shared Revit server where we are in different countries. We are three companies with seven locations. Our performance has been pretty good, but our consultant says when they load linked linked models that their performance suffers because the links are being loaded from the host rather than their local accellerator. Does anyone know if this is where links are loaded from? I always assumed that they are loaded from the local accelerator.

Revit links should be loaded from the accelerators. However, non-RVT links may be loaded from a network drive. Only workshared enabled RVT models are stored in Revit Server. DWGs, images, etc. may be linked to a network drive. This could be the cause of slowness due to loading links.

For DWG links, we create an alias. Each office stores their copy of the DWGs. In Revit, the link is based on the alias, not a specific network drive. e.g.

    office 1 maps \\offc1\projectABC\links to K:
    office 2 maps \\XYZfirm\Revitmodels\DWGs to K:

The Revit model sees the DWG links in K:\
