I am building a Right Side Triangular Louver and want to add vanes depending on the height which I know you can do with an array tied to a count formula. But I want the vanes to get shorter as they are added so they match the angle of the triangle slope. This slope changes depending on the length. I can get this to work with individual vanes but that way doesn't add/subtract new vanes as the height changes. Is this even possible in the family building environment so that it is parametric?

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

You can't do it with a simple array.
Create an adaptive component with a nested (2 or 4 point*) adaptive family for the vane. (*depends how much control do you want)
In the host family, create a surface for the triangle, divide surface, apply parameter for number of subdivisions. (show nodes on the surface)
Load the adaptive vane family, apply the 2 (or 4) points on one section of the subdivided surface. Apply repeater modifier.

I've attached a sample how it could work for you. You'll need to play with the vane family if you want to have 4 adaptive points or control to the size, rotation etc...

I've added example of a 4 point adaptive vane.
It's very basic, there needs to be added parameters for size rotation etc... , but you'll be able to understand how it works.Array.JPG

maciejw, Thanks for the direction! I am looking at your example so I can create what I need but I haven't used Adaptive Points before. How do you create the reference line and lock the adaptive points to the ends of the reference line so they control the line? I can get adaptive points but they don't stay locked to the end points of the reference line.

Well I figured it out. How to build the adaptive model how I want and it flex's to. But you cant load adaptive families into face based families witch is how the frame of the louver is built.

Hi,

It's annoying that you can load an adaptive family into another adaptive, pattern or mass.
But it's a small price to pay for the great possibilities that the adaptive components give you.
Just create the louver frame in the same family and change category.
