Default Attempting to get nested light source to render in a generic family.

I am attempting to nest a light source with a generic model so that it will render. So far I have been successful with creating a light source family and I have nested 2 of them into this family but, when I attempt to render they do not appear.

I have tried rendering with interior and exterior artificial with no luck. I think it may not be showing up because the lights are within the family and I must change the category to light fixture. The thing is I am not allowed to do this so if there might be a work around that would be wonderful.

Almost forgot! At first I was attempting to achieve my lighting effects with illuminated material but I read somewhere that it does not light up its surroundings. Either way I could not get it to show up in the rendering anyway.

EDIT: I went into testing mode after this post. I found that my suspicions that my lights might not be working because of the catagory are wrong I changed the category and did a test render that did not turn out. From there I tested to see if my light sources are just not working so I loaded them into the project and did the test render, and they worked but when I combine them with the family I still have no luck.

You might have a material in the way of your light source. I'm not sure, but you may have issues if you're not saving your parent family as a light fixture. Is there a reason you want this family as Generic?

Did anyone find a fix to this? It seems to be a bug in Revit.

You may need to make the nested family "shared".

Another reason to upgrade to 2015. Thanks maciejw.
Jlondonberg, we cjecked that setting, the families were already set to shared.

Fwiw, I wrote THIS POST in 2011 about nesting a family with a light source in a baluster family. In that case the family would only work if it was NOT Shared.
