Default Applying Layers Defined by Styles Retroactively

    Hi,

A common issue with which I must contend is working within an established drawing that did not make use of styles. Consequently, an alignment exists on layer 0, for instance. I'd like to be able to define the desired layers by updating the style and have those settings apply retroactively. So, once I'm finished with the style definition, that same alignment would move from layer 0 to whichever layer I specified in the style. Do you know of a way to have the layers defined within a style applied retroactively?

On the Prospector Settings Tab, Drawing Settings, check on the "Object Layers" tab.

That does not change the layer of existing objects, only future ones, right?

This has been my experience. Thoughts on how to change existing object layers?

Other than selecting, and running CHPROP or equivalent, I don't think so. but someone else may know better.

Random thought -- if ObjectLayers are set as you want, what happens if you ERASE a C3D object, and then bring it back with OOPS? IIRC that used to be a fix for text style redefinitions back when.

Select one, use AECSELECTSIMILAR (to select like objects), then properties to change the layer.

Are you wanting to change it per the Object Layers found in the Drawing Settings? Some of those properties can be read by Visual LISP.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.
