parameter for cost of cable trays

Does anybody know how to add a parameter for component families on how to add total costs per inch

One cannot directly add such a Parameter that automatically calculates a total cost to the Cable Tray itself. You will have to create a Calculated Value in a Cable Tray Schedule to acquire this total and use the "Cost" Parameter (under Type Properties) to input the desired cost per inch. The formula for the Calculated Value would likely be:

Length / 0' 1" * Cost

If the cost of the Cable Tray can vary based on the Cable Tray Size, then that is a slightly more complicated procedure, but it is very possible.

You can add a value under COST in the cable tray family. To get the total cost per inch will involve two calculate parameters: one to get the total number of inches and another to calculate the total inches by the cost parameter. See if you can figure out what I did in the attached RVT model.
