Default Ready NAS + revit 2014

we are a small office (2 revit users).
we are running our central file off a readyNAS device.
we are all hardwired to the NAS.

we are experiencing slowness when more than one user is working off the same central file.

i.e. when panning or selecting model objects - we often have a delay and the scrolling wheel appears.

any thoughts on why this is happening?
    any solutions?
    thanks.

I use Civil 3D and not Revit, but I may be able to help with the network attached storage (NAS) connectivity issue with more information... I too work for a small business, although we use Windows Server 2012 R2 in lieu of readyNAS.

In any event, what model readyNAS device are you using?

How are you 'hardwired to the NAS' - directly via USB 3.0 (which technically makes this a DAS [direct attached storage]), or is the readyNAS connected via 1+ ethernet cables to your switch, and you're connected via ethernet to same?

If the latter, is your switch gigabit of just 10/100?

    Cheers

    hi thanks for the post.

we are connected via ethernet through a switch.
we are using the ReadyNAS RN31200

    You're welcome, kristin.

Okay, thanks - According to the tech specs, RN31200 comes with dual gigabit NIC, which should be more than enough for small business bandwidth.

So what about your switch, is it gigabit (10/100/1000), or only 10/100?

If the former, does your workstation use a gigabit NIC?

If the latter, try connecting to the NAS directly via one of the dual USB 3.0 connections and test that file access speed (which should be +/- 640Mbps).

[Edit] - Also, am I incorrect in assuming that you've connected both ethernet cables to the NAS via independent 'runs' to the switch in order to take advantage of NIC Teaming?

each workstation has its own ethernet cable to the switch.
    the switch is 10/100/1000.
    thx

Few different ways... Try going to Device Manager (Win + X in Win8.1 OS), Network Adapters, <YourDeviceHere>... Generally 'gigabit' is listed in the device name.

That is an 8-port gigabit switch... *IF* both LEDs are lit for a given connection.

That said, your Firewall/Internet connection is connected to 1-port, presumably your NAS is connected to another 2-ports (for NIC Teaming), which leaves only 5-ports for the rest of your office (which is how small? LoL).

our NAS has only 1 ethernet out to the switch.
we have 8 ports yes (all ports have both LEDs lit.)
    1 - NAS
2 - internet from ISP router
    3 - workstation
    4 - workstation

all workstations are connected with a speed of 1.0Gbps.

Given that all connections are gigabit, to my mind, the bottleneck comes down to your workstation... What are your workstation specs (i.e., OS, processor, RAM, video card, etc.)?

Even with 64-bit OS, and minimum Revit 2014 system requirements, you'll still experience a great deal of lag for any moderate to large drawing/model file.

[Edit] - You really should connect the second ethernet cable for the NAS too, IMO (a second 8-port gigabit switch, etc.).
