    Default Digital Signatures

    Hello -

    Couple questions about Digital Signatures/Stamps....

    1. Is there a step-by-step process on how this gets done through ACAD? or through BlueBeam?

    2. Will I need more than one security certificate if I have several engineers who are interested in implementing digital signatures??

    Any advice is helpful!

    Thank you!

signing PDFs is a different thing than signing DWGs.

And yes, each user needs to have their own (what would be the point if a digital signature did not tie to an individual but was used by many persons?)

Just so's we're all talking about the same thing (the OP seems to be mixing terms): a digitally signed *file* is NOT the same as a signed document. The former is a means of detecting tampering of a files content. The latter assigns responsibility to the documents contents. The former can work with the latter to ensure an electronic engineers stamp reflects the original, accepted contents.

Use of electronic engineers stamps varies between geographic areas and governing professional organizations. Best to ensure what is being planned is actually supported. In most cases a digital equivalent/scan of a wet-ink signature is not acceptable. In some cases the stamp must have a wet-ink signature.

And just to expand a bit, a digital signature using public/private key encryption also provides authentication, eg that the file _came_ from so & so, non-repudiation, eg so and so can't deny having signed the file, as well as identifying tampered files.

Florida DoT uses a proprietary signing mechanism (PEDDS) for complete PDF submittals based on hashing the checksums of all included documents - it works to address the non-tampering aspect, and is included as a manifest document with the submittal.
