Default Major Flaw in upgrading Point Clouds from Revit 2013 to 2014

I have discovered a major flaw in upgrading Point Clouds from Revit 2013 to Revit 2014. I have submitted this to Autodesk and they have agreed that it is a software flaw that needs code updating, but nothing has been done. The problem does not exist in 2015, so they may do nothing about it.

The problem is this. When you convert a PCG file from Revit 2013 model to RCS in 2014, the point cloud completely looses it's orientation to everything else in the model. If you only had one or two point clouds, then this is no issue: just realign them. But in a project with multiple point clouds this creates a very big issue! Fortunately your old PCG files will still show up in 2014 as long as your reference paths have not changed. However, if your paths have changed, or your working with consultants with different paths, there is no way to re-path the PCG point clouds without the upgrade to RCS being required and thus loosing all orientation of the point clouds.

If anyone else has found the workaround to this I would greatly appreciate it!

    Thanks!

    Phillip,
I spoke with our developer responsible for the point cloud indexer in Revit, and you have 2 choices here:

1a. Download and install ReCap (no cost), and index your PCG file into ReCap format in that application.
1b. Download and install Revit 2015, and index your PCG file into ReCap format. No need to upgrade your project model(s) to 2015 format, just insert your PCG file(s) into an empty project to trigger indexing to ReCap format.
    2. Your ReCap format point clouds should now have a consistent origin to your PCG files. Open your Revit 2014 model(s) and "Reload From" each PCG file to the equivalent ReCap file. You should be good to go there.
