Default Apply a type current - reload into project - watch what happens

Open this family- start a project - load the family with the first type current - place all five types in the project - find you a elevation/section to see all of them

    Now let's have some fun.

Go back to the family - select another type and Apply - reload it into the project - WOW

This family is driving me NUTS.

    Any one got any ideas?

Nice! I can't explain this behavior, but I think an exorcism can be performed. Try deleting that middle Reference Plane (top of the legs) and recreating it along with the constraints. This appeared to correct it, here.

Well that was interesting but it did not fix this one. Can you send me the one that you think got fixed?
You are doing that thing with selecting a different type in the family and "Apply" then reloading it into the project. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat, etc etc etc
That is when all the fun happens.

OK - It started breaking again when I re-assigned the Label to the oven instances; I created new elements in my experimenting and I didn't notice that they were controlled by <Family Type...> Parameters. I've had trouble with those in combination with moving parts, as well. Is there a way that you can avoid using "Label" to define your nested ovens?

I have been doing some reverse engineering and popped over to report - it is the <Family Type...> parameter that seems to blow it up. I may just double up and turn them on that way.

Try this fix - edit your nested oven Family and change it to a Work Plane Based Family. Load it back into the Host Family. Name the two horizontal Reference Planes "Lower Oven" and "Upper Oven". Remove all dimensional or parametric constraints to the oven instances, but leave the Label. Select each oven and click "Edit Work Plane" and assign it to the appropriate Reference Plane. I had to assign an Offset of -25 3/8" to each instance to level it with the Reference Plane, but it seemed to work properly after that.

Done - set the two types of ovens to both locations and a check box to turn them one when req'd.
But what entertainment was had with this one!

Fwiw, Revit 2015 doesn't seem to mind, no issue after reload.

I have a divider family that has all its types nested into a shelf divider array family.
The array family works great when flexing the length in the family. When loading the array family from the catalog it picks certain types of the nested divider family to array.
Once placed in a project the array is not working. The array can only be seen in elevation by design. All the arrays will dimension to be whatever the last “Shelf Length” the array family as set to when saved.
Is it that “nested families won’t move properly” problem and somehow they stay where they were last saved in the array family.

It appears to be working fine, here. I loaded the family into a test project, and, get a 4'-0" long shelf with three dividers in elevation, as that is how the family was saved. But the shelf length is an instance parameter, and as I change the shelf length, the number of dividers showing in elevation changes with it. Are you not seeing that?

This Screencast shows what I am experiencing here, using Revit 2015, Update Release 4, Build 20140905_0730(x64) [Revit 2015 R2 Release].
