    Default Detail Components Quick Access

Summary: Quick access to details components to avoid wasting time in a long list of items

Description: The amount of time wasted searching for a lousy symbol under the detail components is very inefficient.
A better more efficient method needs to be created to give fast access to components, symbols, etc. perhaps by the use of keyboard shortcuts.

You can already make a keyboard shortcut to access the Detail Component insertion tool. I suspect what you might be suggesting is a Family\Type list that can be navigated by typing in the name, similar to the way Google autofills the search query as you start typing. Revit should also have a filter for type of family in the list, and be able to search the linked network libraries directly, without having to first use the cumbersome DetailTab>InsertFamily>BrowseNetwork\Folders>LoadFamily over and over. Competing software has a much more efficient workflow for using office libraries.

Default Re: Detail Components Quick Access

Right now details are organized by name. One has to be a mind reader to know what the given name of a component is from Autodesk. A more logical system of organization, would be to prefix the CSI number to the name. Then one can quickly go to the major CSI grouping and sort through to the desired instance.

My second complaint is that Autodesk has listed components all in uppercase such as an angle section L3 1/2X3 1/2X3/8. It would be more readable if it were written like it is in the steel manual manual, L3 1/2x3 1/2x3/8. The use of lower case x breaks up the name into more recognizable sections. All Autodesk has to do is a find and replace in their text data files once.
