    Default Apply materials to extrusion

I have created a simple extrusion to make a generic family and applied a material to it by using the paint tool. It all works except the material won't appear on the top view which is where I need it. It is on every other face except this one. Can anyone help?

It is more effective to select the extrusion and assign the material on the properties palette. Even better would be to have a material parameter so you can change the material when the family is in the project.
