What is needed is a truss family template that is responsive to the beam system command.
The beam and brace template is unwieldy for truss profiles.
The complex beams and trusses do not respond to the beam system command. Neither does the truss template.
What I have done is use the complex beam and truss template for trusses. I draw the components as extrusions from the front view lying in the front/back plane. It is the simplest way to cut the ends to fit at joints. It is entirely a manual process. I have to located them on plan individually. A big problem is opening the family and making changes. The result is members coming apart or can't create model. I presume that locking sections together in the first version is the cause of this fragmentation.

Yes, pre-engineered trusses spaced like joists/rafters needs a lot of help.
