Default Making Connections in Linked Files

Summary: Need to be able to connection to electrical connections in families that are located in linked files

Description: As projects grow in size, Revit needs to be able to establish and maintain system and circuit connections between linked models (aka something similar to the electrical project database in AutoCAD MEP). We find that we're needed to break larger projects up by discipline, or work with outside engineering firms that provide one part of the MEP services required in a buildings.

By allowing items such as circuits to establish a connection in a linked model, we can split projects up into smaller chunks, reducing file size and improving performance. The same can be true for piping and duct systems.

Yes!! This would be EXTREMELY useful for MEP.

As we use Revit for larger projects/files it is a normal practice to separate different parts of a large building, or a campus of buildings, into different Revit files. UNFORTUNATELY, if we divide MEP projects into separate files we lose the ability to connect them into Systems. ..but connecting stuff into Systems is an integral part of Revit MEP!
So, that leaves us stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Another common situation that needs the ability to connect between linked files is:
The HVAC designers have their own file, and it includes mechanical equipment.
The Electrical designers also have their own file, and they need the electrical load data from the mechanical equipment in the HVAC file. Ideally, the should be able to use a circuit/system to connect to the mechanical equipment that resides in the linked HVAC file.

    thanks!
