    Default UVW mapping

When creating a UVW mapping for an object I am unable to fit the gizmo to the object. I can't manipulate it to fit the object. What am I missing?

UVW mapping is based on the XYZ planes - choose the mapping type that best fits the object you are mapping and apply a UVW Mapping Modifier. To modify the UVW gizmo - just select the modifier as a subobject in the editor list - the distortions you can do are pretty limited (like move rotate scale) but if you need more control over mapping look for tutorials utilising the Unwrap UVW Utility - this gives you an output of the object spread out on a 2D plane that you can paint up in Photoshop (or whatever) << this technique is more commonly used for character or organic objects. Remember there are also tiling/scaling/offset options available within the Material Editor as well - but this can be problematic if you are using the same material on multiple objects - but you can always create copies.
