Default Same ltg Fixture but different type?

I have a 2x4 ltg fixture. In a specific project we have multiple instances of this fixture. They are labeled "A1" or "B". is there a way that i can have my fixture tag (type mark) show different types? I had about 10 fixtures in the drawing all labeled with A1, i added another and tried changing it to a type B and all the A1's changed to B's. What am i doing wrong here?

You need to create a new type of that fixture. You can do this by clicking "Edit Types" in the properties, and then change the parameter that your tag is referencing from "A1" to "B". Take a look at the difference between instance and type properties for further information.

Select one of the fixtures you want to change, Edit Type, Duplicate, Rename as 'B', change the parameter that the tag references to 'B' (usually 'Type Mark").

Ok. So duplicating the entire family and giving it a different name is the way to go about it? So im assuming i shud start a new project with just one type and only load the duplicated familes as needed? Just trying to specify the best way to do it. Thank you, thats def very simple

You do not have to duplicate the entire Family file; he is only suggesting to duplicate an existing Type for that Family. So you can either...

A.) Open the Family for editing (as per post #2) and add the new Family Types there, as well as the desired Type Parameter values EXCEPT Type Mark. That is a System Parameter added to Families once they are loaded into a Revit Project.

    - or -

B.) Find that Family in the Project Browser, expand the Family Types, right-click on one, and select "Duplicate" (as per Post #3). You can double-click on a Type to bring up its Type Properties, where you can specify a different Type Mark.

For more info on Family Types, see Revit Help: Adding a Type to a Family
