    Default Revit Server Cache Size

So we are setting up Revit server and our IT staff has decided that the cache and projects folder will exist on a virtualized network share. The question they have is how big should the cache share be? is there a fixed GB amount? or a % of Project folder space?

Default Re: Revit Server Cache Size

Are you using your server as both a Revit Server host and an accelerator? The host server stores the project files in the Project folder space, but does not use the cache folder. If the server is being used as an accelerator, then LAN copies of the project files are stored in the cache folder. Because the Revit Server accelerator (file cacheing server) can connect to multiple host servers, the answer to your question is twofold:

    1. Is the server both a host and accelerator?
    2. If it is an accelerator, how many host servers does it connect to?

Therefore, a Revit Server accelerator cache folder may need more disk space than a Revit Server project folder.

For example, we have about 6 active Revit Server 2014 projects, which uses < 3 gb of disk space in the Project folder. Connecting offices may not be using all 6 projects, so each of their cache folders will have even less than 3 gb of free disk space. Revit Server does require more disk space for a project than compared to the same project on a network drive. So if your project has 4 models totaling 1 gb of disk space, on Revit Server it could require 1.5 gb or more of disk space.

    hth.
