Exclamation fail to get commcntrcontroller! error

Hello, I get this error when starting acad lt 2005, this error started occurring in acad lt. 2004.

I don't use acad at home much but this is starting to get annoying.

-Start up stalls at 47% complete.
-The task manager says autocad lt is "running".
-In the processes menu "WSCommCntr1.exe" is using 50% of the CPU and is using 3.5M of memory.

This happens for about 5-7 min. and then a error message shows up that says "fail to get commcntrcontroller!" I hit ok and the program runs fine.

I asked about this on the autodesk web site but the had no good answers

Thanks for your help... Jim

Thank you... Who needs communication center anyway?

An old thread but sometimes helpful. I was trouble shooting an install of AutoCAD on an XP64 install today and resolved this problem by copying the WSComm... app from the Autodesk shared folder under (X86) program files to c:\program files\common files\Autodesk Shared (which did not exist).

...there's a reason certain apps are not certified for use on certain operating systems!

Background:
I am running 3ds Max 2009 32-bit on in Windows 7 64bit.
When jobs are submitted to be rendered using Autodesk Backburner 2008.1, I see the following in the event log as follows and the rendered frames fail:

Log Name: Application
Source: Application Error
Date: 9/27/2010 2:00:39 PM
Event ID: 1000
Task Category: (100)
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
Faulting application name: WSCommCntr1.exe, version: 17.2.56.0, time stamp: 0x47ae8d9e
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000
Faulting process id: 0x126c
Faulting application start time: 0x01cb5e7dd0dd58db
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\WSCommCntr1.exe
Faulting module path: unknown
Report Id: e611a229-ca71-11df-91b5-20cf30934d50

I started the service "interactive services detection" and saw errors in the application log as follows:

Log Name: Application
Source: Interactive Services detection
Date: 9/27/2010 1:54:27 PM
Event ID: 1000
Task Category: None
Level: Information
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
A device or program has requested attention. Device or application: C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\3ds Max 2009\3dsmax.exe. Message title: Untitled - Project Folder: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Documents\3dsmax - Autodesk 3ds Max 2009 - Unregistered Version - Display : OpenGL.

Looking around more, I found this post describing the Autodesk Communication Center

http://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/r...r1-exe-tip6914

While I wasn't running AutoCAD, the "communication center" appears to be the same executable program that 3ds Max uses for its "Information Center"

Then I searched the registry for all instances of the word "Communication", which generated hundreds of results I manually sifted through. I then figured out that I needed to search more specifically for "CommunicationCenter" in the keys, values and data fields.

I found the following registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\3dsMax\11.0\MAX-1:409\WebServices\CommunicationCenter

For the following value "EnableBubbleNotification", I changed the data from "1" to "0". This will disable the 3dsMax Information Center from appearing when 3dsMax is loaded as a standalone application or .

I had to make sure to change it for all users throughout the registry, not just the current logged in user. This way running Autodesk Backburner 2008.1 as a service under different credentials would render successfully, without the prompting for user to switch to the program to close the "3dsMax information center"

After that, the error stopped appearing. This solution disabled the information center and allowed Autodesk Backburner 2008.1 to continue to run in the background w/o user intervention.

I hope this helps some one!
